The Human Development Center hosted a ceremony on May 16th to recognize excellence in the field of Hillsborough County Special Education Teachers. The 18th Annual Praeceptor Award was presented to Dana Laskey of Clark Elementary, who received the coveted Praeceptor Iceberg Trophy and a $5,000 cash prize.

Laskey's experience as a parent  with an autistic child helped lead her decision to change careers  from  journalism to becoming an ESE  teacher. Numerous heartfelt  accounts of Ms. Laskey's determination, innovation, and dedication helped her to win this year's top award.

The Praeceptor Novus Award  and a $1,000 cash prize  was awarded to Kurt Steinwand of Mann Middle School. Top finalists for both categories included: Mary Marrs of Pizzo Elementary and Amanda Allen of Buckhorn Elementary.

Special thanks to all of the evenings speakers and presenters,  Kim Church, Psy.D. Clinical Psychologist at HDC,  Raymond Miltenberger, Ph.D. Director of  Applied Behavior Analysis Program at USF,  Dr. Waylon B.Moore, Master of Ceremonies ABC News Anchor, Brendan McLaughlin, and our awards presenters Cindy Helton of Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation, and ESE General Director, Maryann Parks.

We would like to thank our loyal sponsors who made this evening possible
